KORG Gadget 2 released, yesterday morning, on iOS, Mac and also now on Windows.
As such, I took a day off from coding, and instead spent the day playing with the iOS edition of the app.

Amazing how much a funeral hits you. I spent all day yesterday sitting about, playing Smash Bros, watching various YouTube things, and generally not really bothering to do any sort of coding whatsoever.

Maybe today will be more productive?

Meanwhile..

Over on the Testing the Width post..

Alan suggests

Just my opinion, but the individual cards could use a tiny bit more margin. I prefer the top picture. Not because of the aspect ratio of the cards themselves, but because it has a more pleasing ratio of cards to inter-column gaps.

I've taken onboard a few of AuthenticKaizen's suggestions, and there's now a slightly better edition of Disasteroids available.

Same download link, right here
The game's pretty much the same as it was on Tuesday, except with a few added powerups to play around with.

There's also (I forgot to mention this anywhere, but it's in there!!) a "Chill" mode. Hit Tab to start the game, and you play without those little white crazy-ass fragments.
BUT
You won't ever get a highscore in chill mode.
'cos that'd cause all kinds of crazyness if you could!

Out of the powerups that AuthenticKaizen suggested, I've added the following.

b = Bomb - Destroys all rocks within a 160 pixel radius
d = Double Shot - two bullets fly around the screen, as you fire!
t = Triple Shot - three bullets at a time! wootsocks!
s = Shield - a momentary shield, to momentarily shield you.
f = Freeze - stops all the rocks!

They're your basic run of the mill shoot-em-up powerups.
If you'd like to suggest anything else, then pop 'em below. (That goes for powerups, or any other ideas/suggestions)

Additionally, the game could really do with a theme tune, so if anyone's made a decent mod/xm/it track lately... Send it over

Yesterday I was playing with Alien sprites.
Today, I've been playing with Balls!

First off, don't get too excited!
This is currently only a simple physics test, and is in no way representative of the end result!
I'm actually aiming for a completely different game, first, but figured I might as well test the physics whilst I'm here.

So far, so good, although the physics are occasionally a little bit glitchy.
But..
.. Yeah, works fine!!

You can Download Lazy Man's 3DS Theme Generator here, but you'll need a couple more utilities on your system to make full use of it.

Editing Themes

To edit 3DS Homebrew Themes, you'll need a decent editor. I use the editor "Usagi"
You can download that here
For reference, the version I use is v1.0.12.1 - I'm not sure if there are other (better or worse) editors available, as I found this one and was comfortable using it.

A nice big chunk of feedback from Alan this morning, on the new Crossword Game, so let's dig through his thoughts.

You can Play the Crossword Game in the Shoebox under Word Games.

Alan

Fun. I beat AL 356-147

Yeah, AL's not hard to beat, right now! I need to get him to plan out Premium Tiles a little better, to bulk up his scores a bit.

My Petit-Switch engine runs with nothing more than 16x16 pixel sprites, so if I'm going to create any form of Alien Deathmatch on there, I'm going to first have to redraw all the sprites.

Blandness has enveloped much of the site!
The complete Shoebox and Foldapuz collection are now added to the Archive, and that's how things are going to look, moving ahead.

In the coming weeks (hopefully!!) I'll be starting to add Browsercade games into the mix, too, so things should begin to get a bit more interesting to look at, but as I transition from making downloads to generating everything via Javascript, there's always going to be that bit where things get a bit .. .. Boring and web-looking!

My target for the first few Browsercade games will, then, be to try and make things as interesting to look at as I can, so that the icons and the screenshots, and even the Youtube clips, begin to look a bit more varied.

I'm now finding myself wondering if I should add the Petit Switch games into the archive, too..
Hmm..

Today's task is the same as the one long endless task that I did yesterday.
Yesterday was Foldapuz, today will be Shoebox.
Taking the screenshots, doing the logos and icons, uploading to the server, adding links, and hacking the database to change the date on the games.

Shouldn't take ALL DAY like it did yesterday, though, as I'm fairly sure I know what I'm doing.. .. Maybe!!

*ugh*

You might've noticed the top-bar of Recent Games is currently (slowly!) changing.

I've decided it's probably a good idea to start adding Foldapuz and Shoebox games in, with the intention of further adding Browsercade games to the archive once that's up and running.

There's always VirtualBox for a retro dev environment, although that doesn't make it easier to find the old versions of the dev kits.

v1.03 - Added Blackjack to the Card Game selection

Blackjack, Pontoon, 21. Call it what you will.
The aim is to reach as close as you can to 21, without going over.
Once you're done, AL will have a try, and whoever gets closest is the winner.

The first to reach three wins is declared the overall winner of the game.

You can Play Blackjack in the Card Games section of the Shoebox.
